Hi all new to the site but i thought id give a heads up on the tees free stretch at yarm, ive been poppin down there over the past fortnight and doing a bit of lure fishing sadly the levels have been hi and the wter running really fast and coloured very very brown due to the snow melting on the hills ,so i had no luck on the lures, ledgering dead baits was a complete waste of time and tackle as no one was able to hold bottom even with the heaviest weights and the amount of debris flowing along the bottom just grabbed your lines and got you well and truly snagged, until yesterday....i went down there and the river was almost like a mill pond and the water had cleared so i fished a ledgered sprat dead bait from the pontoons behind the church,i wasnt holding out much hope as what started out as a lovely overcast day so turned into a beautiful sunny day more like spring than winter, well after five hours fishing i got the smallest of pulls and taps on the rod tip no line was takin and my alarm didnt sound,so i waited for the run......it never happened but the rod tip kept tapping so i struck and after a relativley short fight landed my new pb a 14 and half pound pristine pike,im hoping the levels will stable up and no more rain comes cos a gpt bags and bags of sprats in my freezer that need to be ate by pike. so in summary the tees is fishing ok as i type this so if your looking for a day out piking for free you could do a lot worse

Cheers all and i look forward to sharing more hints and tips with you all.........Mick.

Welcome mick!
Nice to have another predator predator onboard, especially one that nobbles a few (that said one succumbed to my charms-well, chubby shad! today)
Keep posting and getting involved its all good on here, no heroes (except Damo), egos(except me!), legends (except WKD) or the blowing of smoke up others rears!...................

Any more predheads and the bait rods could be back out for a pikey social

I worked for british waterways for a few years and had to go to the barrage a few times and know the manager quite well too. I liked the look of the Tees then (my previous experience of it was from a really good boat that we used to go offshore fishing from which set off for under that funny transport bridge, setting off the water was like oil and stunk!) and you would be surprised what comes through the fish traps up there.
Its come along way has the Tees

It has indeed come along way i also remember the look and smell of the tees, the barrage has helped and we now even get salmon passing through the town centre stretches with some excellent barbel and chub fishing along the croft stretches, also the bream are slowly starting to show there heads along the free middle stretches.I see on one of your posts you mention you have a fly rod,i have recently aquired one through a mate i got the line reel and a box of flys of him, the rod is about 9ft with a rating of 7-9 i havent a clue what the flys are about 40 different types in total and the reel is a shakespear beaulite?? trouble is i have absouletley no idea at all about this side of the sport but would love to try it out in the summer for carp or earlier for grayling and chub so basically if you can give me any idea what my set up would be suitable for and any other advice i would be really greatful.

No problem, I love fluff chucking and even do it for Pike.
I am in the process of a fishing tackle overhaul at my house, selling loads of gear and replacing it with much less, better stuff so I aim to fling more feathers at more species from the spring. Selling my pike set-up to accommodate a really good one in replacement!
Fly fishing is ace, you won`t regret it and it makes you a better angler I believe!
